My Story

I applied for an ad to work with Complete Music, the nation’s largest disc jockey service. I was one of the youngest people ever hired. 19 years old in November of 1998. I was trained by several DJ’s and was able to take all their knowledge and combine what I felt was the best way to do each event.

I worked with Complete Music til February of 2003. My boss and close personal friend David Gard had cancer and had to sell the business, which went through many changes. I was very fortunate to get permission from the head CEO Eric Moss in Omaha Nebraska to start my own company.

I came up with Perfect Memory, since that was what I want to capture for every event that I do. To leave a lasting impression that people will never forget.

To me my business is about truly caring about people and being responsible for the success of every event… It always means so much to me to receive the thank you cards in the mail of the lives I’ve helped touch… I love to hear stories of how couples met and do weddings for several family members.

One family, the Yockey’s I won’t ever forget!! I’ve done about 7 for them and their friends. They even set my new dance record of over 4 hours on the dance floor straight… We could have gone a little longer, but you want to always end every event with great impact! I actually was in a Starbucks and was meeting with a potential client and who walks in… The groom Chris of the Yockey family. So funny, he told the client I was meeting with how wonderful their wedding was and how he couldn’t believe that they danced for over 4 hours.

It’s so amazing to run into past couples at events or out in public and find out about them having kids and their families. I feel blessed to help people and that’s what my company is about. I thank all my clients for the pleasure and honor of helping them to make memories that will always be cherished.

Vendors who are really passionate about their work know how to work as a team. They realize that they were hired by two people who desperately want to have the most amazing, fairy tale evening. It’s not about the photographer as an individual, but the entire evening. Therefore as a DJ, photographer or wedding planner you realize that in order to really help that fairy tale evening evolve you need to bend and work with those vendors that are at hand.

Ryan Hein of Perfect Memory Specialty Events was one person who truly understood that. He knows that as a photographer our greatest need is to spend time with the bride and groom and allow us freedom to create and capture the images we need. Ryan, made sure that we had that. Some how…as if he was in control of magic…he was able to give us our time, kept the party going while the bride and groom were gone and found a way to create an incredible flow throughout the evening. I wasn’t used to the attention, “Hey guys, are you ready to do that garter our do you need more time getting decoration shots?” I looked at him and couldn’t understand why he would want to bend his time line for us…no one else has done that. A DJ who actually cared about my work and didn’t want to sabotage it by cutting us off short. And then he returned to check on us about the lighting and then about getting more time with the bride and groom. Are you serious? Were you sent from heaven?

As the three of us started to clean up our gear and pack we started to discuss weddings and it became very clear that Ryan is at a whole different level. He cares so deeply about his work…or better yet…his craft, that it pours into everyone else that he works with. He ensures that his clients get every song that they ask for and that the evening is built around them. He is an extraordinary person and a DJ that deserves credit.

It was going to be a small wedding at Zenith Vineyards and just as expensive as weddings get, not too much of a budget for music, which is completely understandable when you only expect around 50 guests, but want to have something special.

From the moment I met and talked with Jane, I couldn’t believe how sweet and wonderful she was. A big part of her wedding had to do with her father who was terminal with cancer. Once I met with her in person, I knew I had to do anything to help her out. She was originally going to use a coworker I had at the time to keep costs down. Toward the end of our meeting I told her that, I would be honored to help her on her wedding for the same price and anything she needed she would have.

Needless to say, the wedding was perfect and the special dance we planned with her father was an emotional and touching moment After almost two years, I get a Christmas Card in the mail and it read…

“Ryan, you really did make our day back on Feb 28th 2009. Thank you for taking pride in what you do. It Shows!”

The Lady I spoke with over the phone who emailed was so ecstatic when I  told her I would be more than happy to provide free music and sound for them!!!

Once I arrived at 10:00 A.M. in the morning to the work site in Sandy, I couldn’t believe my eyes!!! It was just like Extreme Home Makeover. The news was there and probably over 250 people.

I managed to get through the crowds and find a perfect spot to setup. Once I got started, people were instantly enthused. I got to meet the soldier Kevin and his wife, plus all sorts of people from various backgrounds.

I figure if you can lend your talents to help and inspire others for such a great cause, you have to!!! I got to speaking with the lead person in charge of the operation and asked what she thought of the music and if everything I was doing was ok? She said “Are you kidding me, you’re music is keeping everyone’s motivation and moral up, this is awesome”

I was only suppose to play for 4 hours but stayed 3 more because I figured that if the  workers could put in a more hous, so can I , plus I could hear my father’s voice in my head saying “you can’t be a weenie”

July 23^rd I had one of the best dancing crowds that lasted over 3 hours!!! Brian and McKenzie were super sweet and wanted ton’s of dancing, which I made sure we made it to the end…

August 7^th Was a date that everybody wanted and I had to turn down at least 12 brides…I met with Sophia and Tam and I must say, I feel very blessed to work with them J

Of all weddings this summer, this one was very involved for me. I had to transition some of my setup for the ceremony and reception, run and provide equipment for their slideshow, MC special games as well as announcements and keep all vendors informed all the way through…

I did receive some great tips… Videographer Lance Watts was amazing and an exceptional value for Sophia and Tam. Here I am watching their Love Story presentation in my house and I’m feeling all emotional and I haven’t even done their wedding yet? Best Love Story I’d ever seen. Lance also is someone who has a very laid back and professional personality and sincerely cares about his quality and clients. That is a rare trait that is hard to find in an industry that is filled with hype. www.wattsfilms.com

Sophia’s cake was done by Lambs Thriftway. It’s bottom layer was Cookies N’ Cream and was a big Hit…. She told me that the design she found in a magazine and gave it to the baker and what an awesome design. $450.00 with delivery. Amazing price for a cake!!!

September 4^th

Kyle and Maria, a wedding I did at a private residence in Lake Oswego. What I really enjoy about couples is them asking for my expertise on a good layout for their ceremony and reception… It’s always a good idea to have dancing in the middle of any area to create movement throughout the night and have people always close to where the party is going to be at. It’s also easier for guests to be closer to where the toast and cake cutting will take place to have a better view. Maria had an awesome color scheme and I haven’t seen one like this and had to take some pictures for viewing.

October 9^th

Laura & Eric Hamilton. A very nice couple that decorated the Benson Hotel the best I’d ever seen for a ceremony that later transitioned into a reception. They also had their isle in custom colors with their names on it, which I thought was very cool and after the ceremony, they hung part of their isle from up above like a banner for the reception. Awesome idea to highlight both the ceremony and reception…

I had an excellent time working at Zenith Vineyards www.zenithvineyard.com To me it’s in my personal top 3 vineyards in Oregon. I worked with Clay of Vibrent Table Catering & Events. Clay complemented me on my services and told me stories of how he comes across some people renting equipment and not knowing how to use it or the infamous I-Pod wedding disasters.

Also, Sara Gray the photographer I was working with mentioned to me that “It’s nice to work with a DJ/MC who knows how to tuck in a shirt” What I really liked about Sara is that her and I share the same thought on couples we work with and that is, nothing is more important than their wedding day and even though it’s a holiday and you’re away from family and friends, your part of someone’s special day that they’ve waited for their whole life.

July 9^th

I worked at The Deepwood Estate in Salem. This was a very involved wedding working with two different sets of musicians, the officiant and running all the sound and special songs for the ceremony & Reception. What I didn’t realize until I arrived is that I did two other couples weddings last year and it’s always a surprise and a joy to seem them again. The bride Lacey sent me an email 2 day’s later thanking me for my services and that always means so much!

Wow Brennan and I can’t thank you enough for the great job you did at the wedding.  You did such an amazing job and the wedding seemed flawless thanks to your organization and knowledge.  Your communication was great and you laid back style was so refreshing.  We appreciate everything that you put into the wedding and will recommend you to anyone who asks about a Deejay.  Thanks so much!

July 10^th

I worked at The Allison Inn and Spa in Newberg www.theallison.com. Wow, what a very nice resort. I love the style of all the staff and the view was breath taking… I worked with Ann McNamara who was overseeing all the details for the ceremony and reception. Ann was so organized and very easy going to work with, by far one of the best onsite coordinators I’ve ever worked with.

Bryan Rupp was the photographer www.bryanruppphotography.com and he has such a great personality and I have too much fun working with him. Here are some pictures he took of dancing. I also had a cool idea of taking a picture of a cool little Coke bottle and Bryan made my vision come true

July 11^th

I was at Gray Gables for an outside ceremony and indoor reception. Brent and Ashley were a very sweet couple to work with! What amazes me sometimes is unexpected circumstances. Brent and Ashley were going to have a slide show and use someone’s projector and Gray gables screen. When I asked Brent where is the Projector and DVD player, he mentioned that he forgot the DVD player and could I help him out? So I was able to hook everything up and run sound/video through my laptop. The person who was to provide the projector was no where to be found, so I took the initiative to find the projector and hook everything up and run the whole show seamlessly.

My job was suppose to be just running sound from the DVD player, but turned into a lot more responsibility for a project that I wasn’t a part of.

All in all the show went off beautifully and I don’t think the Brent and Ashley realized how much I had to do to make sure their slide presentation was a success and went off without a hitch…

I do really enjoy helping couples and later that evening when we were dancing Brent and Ashley thanked me so much for doing and excellent job and were surprised how involved everyone was with dancing! I must say, they were the best dance group I’ve had at Gray Gables.

July 11^th

My associate Adam had a wedding on the 11^th as well and we both spent a lot of time planning Stacey and Tyler’s wedding. We worked with Veronica, Stacey’s best friend and Veronica sent me this nice email.

Adam did a great job! Everyone has given great feedback on food and music, it was a success!! Thank you so much for all of your help and again, things were just awesome. I will definitely continue to refer my friends to you and Adam!

Friday was a beautiful wedding at the Abernathy Center working with Laurel www.poswersstudios.com and they danced an extra hour!

Saturday was at McMenamins Cornelius Pass Road House, where I ran into a couple I was their DJ years ago and it was amazing to catch up and here how they have 2 little boys now and referred my to the couple I was helping on that very day

On Sunday, I was at the coast at McMenamins Sand Trap and worked with new photographers Eddie and Amy www.lyfephotography.net which were a pleasure to work with. I just got back an email from my Sunday bride  Krisha and it’s posts like these that mean so much to me
